The Corruption of the Primordial Religion

Since it is taking a very long time to get my podcast going, I will briefly explain how I think it should begin.

In the first place comes the creation of the universe and the fall of the bad angels, then the temptation and fall of the first parents. I don’t intend to treat of this exhaustively; I only want to tell enough of the story to set the stage for the object of my account.

After this I will endeavor to relate as much as I can find concerning the state of Adam’s religion. There are two mystical principles in the antediluvian world, that of Adam’s faith and that of the serpent and his empty promises. Most of the material will be drawn from holy Scripture and orthodox commentary thereon, but it may be instructive also to hear what the followers of the serpent say about this time period.

Then comes Noah and the Flood. Noah preserves the true faith intact, and his sons resettle the earth. One thing is certain: the religion that Noah’s sons receive from him is the true faith in the One God and His promise of a coming Redeemer. Yet by the time of Christ we find that only the Jews have preserved this faith intact. What happened to the other sons of Noah to make them forget the truth?

My central thesis is that the modernist heresy today gives us a crucial insight into what must have taken place. Modernism is a unique case study in apostasy, because unlike other heresies which attack this or that dogma of the faith, modernism directly attacks the virtue of faith itself. It is the synthesis and therefore the implicit archetype of all doctrinal errors. We shall discover the echoes of modernism in all the religions of the gentiles, as though somehow modernism and modernity had come before antiquity. Therefore what we are experiencing now is not a flight into novelty but (to use Terence McKenna’s term) an archaic revival. It is a repetition of the ancient catastrophe whereby most of mankind forgot the true God, except that previously this happened during the time of expectation, and now it is happening after the coming of Our Savior.

That all heresies have a synthesis implies that there has been only one great organized force of opposition against the true faith throughout history. Against the saints who have kept the word of God stand the sorcerers who presume to make a law unto themselves. Modernism has always been their creed, insofar as modernism can be called a creed. This is a very bold claim, but I am now quite confident that I can at least begin to substantiate it. To do so requires an unusual historiography: a Great Man theory that focuses on hidden, that is to say, mystical criteria of greatness. To expound this theory, I propose to tell the story.

Since no one reads this blog, I am sure that no one will listen to the podcast. I’m going to record it just the same.

If I am basically right, then there is one truly magnificent corollary: The histories of the time of expectation (the Old Testament) and of the New Testament must resemble or parallel one another. One would expect the events of both ages to be actually organized in relation to a central event that presupposes man’s catastrophic rejection and forgetfulness of God, namely, the Incarnation. It is very exciting to know that the Maccabean Uprising Project has now confirmed that this resemblance exists, and it is to such a remarkable degree of depth and detail that one is forced to see in it, not the machinations of some secret society of men or angels, but the loving and omnipotent work of God Himself.
